Golf simulator: which one to choose?

Why invest almost 20,000 euros today for a Trackman or a GC Quad when a Garmin R10 is less than 500 euros?

This is the question we will try to answer.

It is true that since the arrival of mini radars on the market, comparisons with the Trackman, the market reference, are regularly made to reassure consumers of their investment in a mini radar such as the Garmin R10 for example.

First of all, can we really compare measuring devices for golf simulators?

For a player swinging at 85 mph and centering the ball correctly, there will be about a 20 mph loss of speed at impact. So the question is: When does my device take its measurement? And does it always take it at the same time?

This is question number two which is, in my opinion, the most important if you are looking to improve your golf game.

If you are a golf tech geek and have fun comparing devices to each other, none of them give the same club speed (2 mph more on average with Flightscope compared to Trackman for example).

If you are being praised for small training gadgets in comparison to a Trackman, it is either because the tests were not very thorough or because they were carried out by an amateur golfer who is discovering the orgasmic effects of this sport (when the ball goes more or less straight), and who is not yet in total control of his movement (if that were even possible).

Why can't small devices match the performance of a Trackman?

Well, simply because of the technology used. A Garmin R10 for example may be limited in measuring dispersion because of the size of its Doppler panel. There are surely algorithms that will correct these errors.

In the meantime, what guarantees me that the delta between two identical shots is the same? If you have a solution to measure the spin of a ball with a super drone, I'm interested... Or you can also ask the best player in your club who should be able to tell you his spin to within 3 or 4 RPM...

The Flightscope Mevo+ remains an excellent compromise for controlling your budget. The device nevertheless requires ultra-precise manual calibration to end up with consistent information from session to session on certain parameters (low point, angle of attack, spin loft, etc.). This is explained by the fact that high-end models such as TM4, GC Quad, FlightScope X3, can "see" the ball through their integrated camera and identify its location, unlike entry-level models which must be specified where the ball is located, otherwise you will have inconsistent data.

How does a Trackman perform indoors?

This is a question that is often asked, especially by manufacturers or distributors looking for placement of their products. It is a way to directly attack the market-leading Danish manufacturer.

Here is my answer which translates into another question: Has anyone done any comparisons with a super camera to validate this information? You already know the answer...

Trackman is embarking on the Next Tour Golf adventure where professional players compete against each other on an indoor simulator. The argument that the radar does not work indoors seems increasingly difficult to maintain.

For your future investment, know that a Trackman, a Flightscope Mevo+ or a Foresight have very little devaluation on resale. It is the opposite for golf simulator solutions with integrated technology such as About Golf, HD Golf, Golf In, TruGolf or you risk a big loss on resale.

Is the Foresight GCQUAD more accurate than a Trackman?

I don't have, once again, a firm answer to give you. Your choice will be based on one model or another according to criteria that must be specific to you: ease of use of the device, user interface, translation of software or even space available for setting up your device in order to guarantee quality information collection.

Conclusion :

You can try to find all the arguments to comfort you in your purchase, it seems that Trackman still dominates the simulator market, to the point of becoming the generic term. In addition to its ultra-fun software that integrates artificial intelligence to facilitate the user experience, we note on our professional installations that the device is used 10 times more than on our other installations, at least on French territory.

On the other side of the border, the Swiss, for their part, are just as fond of the Foresight models, which does not yet offer software in French in its latest version (this should be available in a few weeks), hence perhaps this lack of presence in France, despite a product that can largely hold its own with Trackman on the quality of the data collected...
